As proprietor and principal artist
of Braaksma Design, Carolyn Braaksma has been creating large-scale
public art since 1989. Concourse floors at Denver International
Airport, miles of sound walls for the Pima Outer Loop in Scottsdale,
Arizona, and components for new campus buildings at the Colorado
School of Mines, University of Minnesota, and Iowa State University
are among the many commissions
and opportunities that demonstrate her creativity and versatility.
Before forming Braaksma Design, Ms. Braaksma worked as a studio
artist and a welder in construction.
Many of Ms. Braaksma’s works
have achieved special recognition,
including the Crescordia Award for Special Achievement in Environmental
Excellence, the American Concrete Institute Special Recognition
Award, the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association Merit Awards,
and the American Institute of Architects Merit Award.
